New World Handicap System

On the 2nd November 2020, golfers around the world will have their handicaps run by one global body, THE WORLD HANDICAP SYSTEM.

The new system will bring in significant changes to how players handicaps are administered. The aim is that all players will have a Handicap Index that reflects their current standard of play.

Some of the key features are as follows;

  • courses will be rated on the "SLOPE SYSTEM", therefore players stroke allowances will be adjusted at different courses.
  • your handicap index will be based on the average of the best 8 of your last 20 rounds.
  • different stroke allowances will be allocated on a % basis in varying types of competitions.

The good news is that the clubs computer systems will do all of the complicated work in the background.

However, to help members understand how the new system will work, we have uploaded the information presentation from The English Golf Union for your perusal.

You can follow the below link to view this, we will also be staging members update meetings through the year, so please keep an eye out for these, we will communicate them via email once we have confirmed dates and times.
